The Tonic of creative minds
Creative forces shaping the culture, from the page and the screen to the runway and the stage.
Isn’t it funny how certain creative minds have the power to pull you into a rabbit hole? You know the feeling…you stumble upon someone’s work, and before you know it, you're fully immersed in their world, wanting to know everything about them, their life, their process. It’s a tonic, this kind of joy. I’ve been down countless rabbit holes: from the gardens of Piet Oudolf to the designs of Mette Hay, from the Copenhagen cafe Atelier September chef Frederik Bille Brah, to, ok let’s face it….the Love of Huns.

This week, I had the chance to attend the premiere of Lena Dunham’s new TV show Too Much. As a Girls fan, I’ve always appreciated Lena’s bold creativity (sign up to her book reco substack
), and I’m glad she’s found a home in the UK-it feels like we’re part of her tribe now. The conversation on stage with Will Storr and Meg Stalter felt like being in on something special. Lena has a way of bringing this magnetic energy - she really knows how to spark creativity in others.

The cast is incredible too. Sitting right behind me were Tom Hanks, Rita Wilson, and Andrew Scott (I know, I know, stop bragging). And the after party in the gardens at the Barbican - beauts.

Next up, Jonathan Anderson’s debut at Dior. Since stepping away from fashion and diving deeper into food, I’ve been less connected to the movements of designers, the constant drops of new collections, and the ongoing campaigns. That said, there are still a few designers and brands that continue to capture my attention and Jonathan Anderson is definitely one of them. What’s equally exciting, though, is how the ‘marketing’ has been handled. The invite? Ceramic plates with eggs.

Dior’s team also used Instagram’s ‘close friends’ feature to invite people, adding an exclusive, behind-the-scenes feel to the whole event. The teaser posts leading up to the show were brilliant: a video of footballer Kylian Mbappé (my son’s fav). The production before the show was so well curated (most brands just show an empty catwalk waiting for people to arrive). The actor from White Lotus Sam Nivola laid about the gardens in Versailles as the Dior crew started to arrive (you even had a live feed of Josh O’Connor in his car). The show? - incredible cargo pants/shorts…I want them. I’m excited to see what he does with the womens and couture collections (first creative director in years to cover all collections)…..

I couldn’t go through a Glastonbury weekend (I wasn’t there, just watched everything on iPlayer and Instagram) without diving into a creative rabbit hole of Doechii—WOW. I’ve mentioned her videos before, but her Glasto set was incred. She took the stage wearing Vivienne Westwood, bringing fierce energy and undeniable style.
There was a bit of Missy Elliott in her performance, but Doechii also carved out a space that’s entirely her own. Raw power and slick choreography, leaving the audience wanting more. Loved it.
Ok, must send before bed and another rabbit hole x
