The Perfect Day
What actually makes a perfect day? The ultimate tonic in life....
What makes a day perfect, not just good? Like, if you could plot out THE ideal way to spend a day - what would be in it? As I’m in Malaga with friends, planning each day around whatever we fancy doing we’ve mulled over the perfect day (and given it a bit of practice).
Mine would start at 8.45 on a Saturday, jump out of bed for Rye Runners- a natter and a run to the beach. Back home via the White House for a loaf of sourdough, a muffin and coffee with Luke and the kids, the FT, jump into the (large paddling) pool. (oops, as this is my made up perfect day i’d change that for a swim in natural swimming pond/lakey thing in the garden).
Then an open garden to mooch round (Nick and Thomas’s out at the Harbour is THE one).

Then maybe baking with the kids (this day is made up so me nagging them to come help me is not part of the day) - current fixation, a brown sugar cake with strawberries - the one Verena conjured up for the new Yotam Ottolenghi book preferably.
And because I make the rules, drop me into a European city: a market, a hunter-gatherer lunch (a rotisserie chicken/local cheese and salami, baguette), then a gallery.
Yesterday that was the Picasso ceramics at the Musee Picasso in Málaga followed by said market and a dip into the amazing cafe recommended by Milli Taylor for churros.

Then a concert: impromptu always gives another layer of frisson. Last weekend was The Streets, outdoors, Dreamland, Margate. Fig-leaf cocktails, crisps and taramasalata first at Sargasso, then the mosh pit - smiling at your mates bouncing with joy, debriefing the wonder of song writing and soulful backing singers. The buzz off it lasts days.
A swim out to the buoy on the beach (Rye or Malaga). Perhaps a midnight swim to finish could finish the day - we actually pulled off this week, in Málaga (ok, it wasn’t quite midnight but details details).
What does a perfect day look like for you, and what am I missing?
S xx
